ABOUT US
Michael Murphy Malone
In the annual tradition spanning three generations of Malones,
Michael Murphy Malone, by accident, created an epic event of culinary
chicanery and ribaldry that would make Irish history.
A horse trainer by trade, Michael became renowned for his extreme
generosity in sharing his race winnings with friends and strangers
alike. After winning nearly a year's income on a single race during
the county festival, he proceeded to spend most of it purchasing
at auction the Grand Championship bull as well as the blue ribbon
keg of 20 year old Irish Whiskey. He enjoyed a good steak!
The party that followed lasted a fortnight for some of the revelers
and earned Malone the reputation of having a grand taste for the
finer things in life. He became such a popular figure that he decided
to repeat the event annual for as many years as he lived.
Malone died at age 77 when his horse fell on him at the finish
line of a stakes race in a friendly wager with a lifelong friend.
Malone won the race. His friend bought the prize bull that year
in his honor. This is the only year since that a member of the Malone
family was not the high bidder on the Grand Champion.
In that same spirit, Malone's goal is to provide
you with a memorable dining experience with the finest ingredients
expertly prepared and presented, excellent service, delightful surroundings
and fine wines selected to marry to our menu.
